Mini Biogas Plant

LISD develops mini biogas plant projects suitable for small farms. The plant provides a rational use of farm manure and other by-products for generation of bioenergy. The resulting energy can be used for combined production and sales of heat and electricity.
Mini-biogas plant projects are implemented by Vilis Dubrovskis.

Gas Carrier

To increase convenience of producers and versatility of use, LISD develops purified biomethane transportation systems that allow delivery of biomethane from the plant to consumers. During transportation, biomethane is under 200-bar pressure.

Gas Filling System

In order to promote the increased use of environmentally friendly fuel – biofuel – in transport vehicles in Latvia, LISD develops a functional and economically sound solution for filling transport vehicles with biomethane.

Development of Latvian scientific research strategy in the area of green energy with the aim of ensuring the continued practical research, analytical work and project development for sustainable development of Latvian economy.

Industrial production output in Latvia increased by 18% in July y-o-y

In July 2010 industrial production output1 (at current prices) comprised LVL 339.2 mln, according to the data of Central Statistical Bureau. Compared to June 2010 industrial production volume in July 2010 grew by 2.3%, but compared to July of previous year it has increased by 18%.

European Commission sets out criteria for clean marine environment

Europe is surrounded by seas; it makes the task of clean marine environment a Union’s priority. The European Commission after long discussions outlined the criteria necessary to achieve good environmental status for Europe's seas. This will help Member States to develop coordinated marine strategies within each regional sea, ensuring consistency and allowing progress to be compared between regions.

Net sales of Estonian enterprises increased by 5% in Q2

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 2nd quarter of 2010, the net sales, costs and total profit of the business sector increased compared to the previous quarter as well as to the same quarter of the previous year. The increase of net sales of business sector continued for the second quarter in succession. According to the seasonally adjusted data, the net sales of enterprises increased by 5% in the 2nd quarter of 2010 compared to the 1st quarter.

Monthly passenger volume at Airport Riga in August exceeds 500,000 for second time

In August 2010, Airport Riga, for the second time in its history, exceeded a monthly passenger volume of 500,000, as the airport serviced 518,709 passengers last month. The airport informed the business information portal Nozare.lv, that this August's passenger volume exceeded the passenger volume of August 2009 by 21.1%.

Current account surplus in Latvia contracts to 6% of GDP in Q2

The surplus in the current account of Latvia's balance of payments contracted in the second quarter to 6% of gross domestic product, the Bank of Latvia press secretary Martins Gravitis informed the business portal Nozare.lv. The current account surplus amounted to LVL 183.8 million or 6% of GDP in the second quarter. In the first quarter, the current account surplus stood at 8.6% of GDP.

airBaltic: behind substantial increase in number of Russian tourists in Latvia and Lithuania

During the first half of 2010, Latvia and Lithuania were among the top five fastest growing destinations for Russian tourists, according to that country’s Federal Statistical Service. In first place was Thailand, with an increase in tourist numbers by 118.5% in comparison to the same period in 2009, followed by Lithuania (92.3%), Egypt (65.4%), Latvia (59.8%), and Montenegro (58%). Russian travel agencies, which provide services related to the Baltic States have confirmed that the increase in tourist numbers can be attributed specifically to airBaltic operations.
